Tybee Island Sea Turtle Project: Five species of sea turtles nest on Georgia's beaches, primarily the Loggerhead Turtle which is currently on the Endangered Species List. The problem: When turtle hatchling come out of the nest their instincts direct them to move toward light which, until modern lighting was developed, was the moon and stars reflecting off the ocean.  Today, the direct light from houses near the beach and "sky glow" from coastal cities can confuse the hatchlings and cause them to move inland where their chance of survival is almost nonexistent.
